We have many opportunities at AVFRD. We need firefighters, EMT's and administrative personnel.
We are looking for any able bodied individuals over the age of 16 who is looking for a challenging way to help the community. Certainly, if you have previous fire/rescue experience, we would be glad to "put you to work". If you do not have the training, we will provide it for you at no charge.
For those of you who may not wish to actively deliver fire/rescue service, there are numerous other opportunities too use your skills in administrative, maintenance, public relations and educational roles. What ever your talents are we can and will use them to enhance our operations.
Firefighter
Every operational member before progressing to fire fighting training must complete an in-station 20 hour training program. When 20 hour training has been completed, you will be cleared to ride any apparatus but are considered a probationary member (redhat) until you have completed fire fighter training. There are 2 levels of fire fighting training. Firefighter I and firefighter II. All training begins at Firefighter I. Training is taught by the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Department and upon completion and testing, will be VA state certified.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Every operational member before progressing to EMT training must, complete an in-station 20 hour training program. When 20 hour training has been completed, you will be cleared to ride any apparatus but are considered a probationary member (redhat) until you have completed EMT training. EMT training begins at the BLS (basic life support) level. All training is taught by the LCFRD. EMT-B classes are 2 or 3 times a week. Upon completion and passing of tests, you will be VA state certified and will be under the license of the Loudoun County EMS director.
Administrative
Administrative members are the unsung hero's of AVFRD. They provide help that keep our fire station alive. From bookkeeping to fundraising to building maintenance, your help is needed. There is no special training or orientation training but if you wish to learn more about the operational side, we will gladly teach you. Whatever you can do to contribute will be greatly needed and appreciated.

We have a prospective member meeting on the last Tuesday of every month, starting at 7 PM at Station 6. Please come to ask questions, get information & continue the paperwork requirements for membership.
