Wagon 606 Arrived to find nothing at the dispatched address. However neighbors eventually came out and stated it was the street behind this address. Reserve Engine 622 went to investigate. At 2133just as Wagon and Tower 606 were backing in from the previous lightning strike; another one came out on Graves lane in 6's first due. As company 6 units made their way across the street from the firehouse, Loudoun ECC advised they were filling the box due to reports of smoke in the house. Old Fashioned Firemans Day

As America celebrated it's birthday, four members of AVFRD made the trip to Fairfax City to compete in their annual Old Fashioned Firemans Day. Last year the Live-Ins from Ashburn placed first in the lay a line competition and second in the battle of the barrel. The lay-a-line competition simulates a response for a fire, the fire engine drives down the street and lays hose from a hydrant to a designated stop point, firefighters must then pull another hose line and knock down three targets. AVFRD members posted a quick time of 28 seconds only to lose to City of Fairfax by 1 second. Battle of the Barrel is a reverse tug of war, in which an empty keg is suspended 12' in the air. Members utilize a 2 1/2' hoseline to push the barrel to the opponents side. The Ashburn made it to the finals against the team from Burke and placed 2nd. All in all, Ashburn brought home two 2nd place trophies from the days events. We would like to thank the Fairfax City Fire Dept, for their hospitality and inviting us back for years to come.
